Your First Milestone: All personal pronouns

You are logged out. Progress won’t be saved, and some features like levels, badges, and the Immersive Learning mini app are unavailable.

Grammar

Check out our first personal pronouns:

Sie      you (formal)
ich      I
er        he

In German, verbs change according to the personal pronoun you use. Do you see a pattern?

kommen
ich komme  I come
er kommt     he comes

heißen
ich heiße    I’m called
er heißt       he is called

Do the exercise to find out when to use which word!

3   Fill the gaps. Use Sie, ich, er.

Woher kommen ?

komme aus Russland.

Wie heißen ?

heiße Igor.

Wo wohnen ?

wohne in China.

Und woher kommt ?

Aus Deutschland. heißt Paul. wohnt in Frankfurt.

Hint

Some words often go together:

wohnen + in
Ich wohne in Deutschland.
I live in Germany.

kommen + aus
Ich komme aus Deutschland.
I come from Germany.

Beware of false friends!

wo sounds like who
but it means where

wer sounds like where
but it means who

 💡  Learning suggestion

Research shows that there is a connection between elapsed time and forgetting:

Elapsed time     is forgotten

20 minutes          30-45%
1 day                   50-65%
1 week         .. 70-75%
1 month         .    80%

Using our flashcards can prevent that. Our best students use them several times a week – and you should, too!

 💬  Listen and repeat

Russland China Deutschland er hallo heiße ich kommt Paul wer wie woher wohne
