Hint

You’ve probably noticed that nouns are capitalized and have different articles in German. We Germans figured that having three articles instead of only one makes our language more fancy:

(male article) der Tag the day
(female article) die Frau the woman
(neuter article) das Büro the office

We will soon explain when to use which article.

The gender pops up if you tap any noun in the dialogs (page 1 of each lesson). For example, in this lesson it shows “noun (f.)” if you tap on the word Entschuldigung. So you know it uses the female article (die). If it says “(n.)“, it means it’s neuter (das). And “(m.)” means masculine (der).
