Grammar
In this lesson, we complete our collection of personal pronouns:
ich I
du you
er, sie, es he, she, it
wir we
ihr you (plural)
Sie you (formal, sing./pl.)
sie they
Ihr is the German personal pronoun for saying „you guys“ or „all of you“. It’s the plural of du.
Also notice how the formal Sie is used both for one person or multiple persons.
See how this regular verb changes and try to find a pattern:
(to live) wohnen
ich wohne
du wohnst
er, sie, es wohnt
wir wohnen
ihr wohnt
sie/Sie wohnen

Why is it “Ich will nicht suchen” instead of Wir? I thought the “en” ending of the “suchen” verb was for “wir”? And why is it “Ihr macht die Arbeit.” instead of Sie? I thought “Sie” verbs also end with “t”?
Hi Allan,
“wir” has an -en ending (see grammar above). So the correct verb form that goes together with “wir” is “wollen”, not
“wir will”.The “sie” that means they in English goes together with an -en verb ending. So it’s “Sie machen”, not
“Sie macht”. To let you know which “sie” is meant, it says the translation in English.
